What is the purpose of the Life Discovery class?

The Life Discovery curriculum is focused on life skills development for high school students. The class is designed to help students become the best, most successful versions of themselves—both throughout school and after graduation.

What subjects does the Life Discovery class cover?

Life Discovery aims to prepare students for life after school by focusing on the following topics:

  • Self-Reflection & Interpersonal Connection
  • Creativity & Innovation
  • Social Impact
  • Personal Branding, Presence & Influence
  • Financial Literacy

What outcomes can we expect from implementing this class in our schools?

The goal for this course is to empower students to self-reflect and start aligning their personal interests and strengths for the future. By the end of the Life Discovery class, students should:

  • Understand their own communication style and how to communicate with people whose styles differ from theirs.
  • Identify their strengths and weaknesses and how to leverage those in career and life choices.
  • Have an idea of what career pathways are the best personal fit for them—both in interest and aptitude.
  • Develop a broad set of skills that are applicable in every part of life.

How is this curriculum different from life-prep classes that are currently offered in schools?

First, not all schools are offering classes that are primarily focused on preparing students for life. Many schools are offering classes that focus on financial literacy and career readiness, and some schools are teaching innovative classes that focus on topics ranging from communication styles to “adulting.” We want to support those classes and work with those teachers to recognize the best of what they are doing and build it into a course that is available to all students. ERA’s Life Discovery curriculum will offer a well-rounded and integrated approach to teaching all these skills.

Is the curriculum aligned with educational standards?

Yes. The curriculum is currently under development, and as we build it, we are aligning it with state and national standards.

What age group(s) is the curriculum designed for?

The current focus for Life Discovery is high school, though we plan to expand the curriculum to fit middle school and ultimately K-12.

How do schools adopt the Life Discovery curriculum?

Get in touch with us! We’re looking for schools, and individual educators, who are interested in testing pieces of the curriculum in the late winter and spring of 2025, and in piloting the program in 2025-26.

Can individual educators access this curriculum?

Yes — and we’d love to talk to you about helping us develop it too. See the previous answer and reach out here.

What kind of teacher training do you provide?

We’re developing a robust teacher-training program that will include a summer institute and ongoing professional development through the school year. We’re also building a train-the-trainer program so that our partner educators can also become staff-development leaders.

What supporting materials will be provided?

The Life Discovery curriculum will come complete with extensive resources for educators, including discussion guides, lesson plans, and supplemental materials.

Does the Life Discovery curriculum support diverse learning needs?

The activities incorporate multiple learning styles and will also be reviewed by special-education teachers to provide ideas for adapting lessons for students with specific needs.
